ISE 2018 – Amsterdam, Netherlands

This year, more than 80,000 visitors showed up to say “hi” at Integrated Systems Europe’s (ISE) 15th edition, celebrated in Amsterdam. Although it’s one of the rainiest cities in Europe, the weather remained sunny for this huge gathering of tech-based professionals. ISE is usually a quite Eurocentric event: many American integrators don’t attend this event because others like CES or CEDIA are closer, so they can’t justify the travel costs. A Commercial Integrator magazine survey revealed that 79% of interviewed Americans were not attending this year, reinforcing the idea that this is an event more oriented to the European market, with mainly international players (or those open to the European market) attending. Having one of its two main offices in Barcelona, SOUNDMACHINE attended the event in an attempt to expand its frontiers in the European market. It’s usually a good time to reinforce ideas on what’s important for the industry, instead of making a lot of advances with new releases. In fact, we haven’t seen any significant or groundbreaking announcement at this ISE, but it …

CES 2018 – Las Vegas, NV

CES 2018, the Las Vegas consumer electronics fair held on January 9th-12th, has bid farewell to its more than 160,000 attendees. Despite a blackout that shook the fair on the second day (which the most prepared used as an opportunity to show off in the dark), the event was a success. Little data has been given regarding launch dates, but each company had an opportunity to display what they have to offer. Representatives from the SoundMachine team were in Las Vegas to observe the event. Among the featured products were a variety of massive screens, impressive sound systems, and aerial taxis that will take over city transportation in no time. Both well-established companies and up-and-coming startups demonstrated not only their current offerings, but what the future of the industry holds. Google and Amazon’s Constant Battle This year, Google and Amazon are still competing to gain the largest possible market share (taking into account that Siri has long been lagging in popularity). And if in 2017 the unanimous winner was Alexa, this year Google and its …

Crestron, SONOS and SoundMachine Partner Up

SONOS and Crestron have teamed up with SoundMachine to legally stream music in commercial installations, such as restaurants, retail stores, and doctor’s offices, which provides recurring revenue for dealers. Thanks to this partner program, audio system installers, AV integrators, and contractors who work directly with Crestron will now be able to equip their customers with a full commercial music solution – covering all their needs while benefitting from the SoundMachine incentive program. Crestron partners can now join SoundMachine’s program directly from their webpage at this link, which is accessible from Crestron’s integrated partners section. This partnership initiative positions SoundMachine as the number one service for commercial installers to completely cover the needs of their customers, both at a service quality level and also from a legal perspective. SoundMachine has been available in Crestron through SONOS since 2015, covering more complex installations that require a control system to be properly managed. Our team has been trained to assist all Crestron dealers and help them address any issue they may encounter, maximizing their customers’ satisfaction. Additionally, partners receive …

The CEDIA Expo 2017 – San Diego, CA

Just last week, the CEDIA Expo was held in San Diego, California. CEDIA, which stands for Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association, is an international trade association. Representing over 3,700 technology-market member companies, the CEDIA website states that they provide “development pathways that move [members] to the next level by providing education, community, resources and vision”. Year by year, the CEDIA Expo has become a meeting point for every big player and savvy startup in the home integration industry. SoundMachine was in attendance this year to get a grasp of all the new advances in this exciting field. There were numerous speakers, plenty of home theater-related products, and several overall trends that are worth mentioning: the connections between automation and voice recognition. Keys to Home Automation Home automation is no longer about automation itself, but about the relationship between the parts of the system. At SoundMachine, we have almost entirely conquered that milestone of making things work on their own. While automation can be improved in individual objects, this improvement does not leave adequate margin, …

InfoComm 2017 – Orlando, FL

To no one’s surprise, the number of profitable retailers across the United States seems to be in  steady decline. Over two thousand stores shut down last year alone, although that’s nothing compared to 2008 when a record 6,000 stores closed permanently. Worse, if closings for 2017 continue on their current trajectory, shut-downs will surpass even those of 2008. Although Amazon.com can’t bear all the blame in this story, the simple reality is that between 2010 and 2014 the e-commerce industry grew by an annual average of $30 billion dollars. InfoComm challenges the idea that this decline is the end of retail: in fact, during such a bad year for retailers, this commercial AV event has had its biggest showing ever. Over 44,000 attendees packed into the event (a 14% increase since last year’s gathering held in Las Vegas). This huge turnout may signal the reinvention of retail: If stores are closing at such a dramatic rate, those that remain must face the need to create new experiences for customers, increasing their competitiveness in the marketplace. …

SoundMachine Partners with SONOS Dealers

SoundMachine is now partnering with SONOS, the leading wireless sound system, which allows SONOS dealers to offer SoundMachine to their customers and join their partner program. Thanks to this partner program, audio system installers, AV integrators, and contractors who work directly with SONOS will now be able to equip their customers with a full commercial music solution – covering all their needs while benefitting from the SoundMachine incentive program. SoundMachine provides a highly-specialized and fully-licensed music platform for businesses, and has been available in the SONOS platform since 2015. Businesses who already have a SONOS at their place benefit from easier streaming for light commercial installs with more adaptability than many commercial music services. As a partner, installers will be able to offer their customers SoundMachine’s fully-licensed music service after installing an audio system in a business, whether it’s aa restaurant, coffee shop, or gym. This is key, since playing music in public spaces requires a different license than music for personal use. Our team has been trained to assist our partners with all necessary …
